Fifty Grey's of Shade:
(For kids)
There once was a wolf,
Named Lady of Shade,
Who fussed of her fur,
While other wolves played.
#######
Was it dappled or specked,
Feared stripe foul bright,
A freckle of many,
Not oneness so right.
This lady named Shade,
Fussed tail to an ear,
Looked over her fur,
Saw there and then here.
But all she did see,
Was grey of the best,
A furness of one,
Her fears were at rest.
#########
So Shade went her way,
Her tail all a whistle,
Her grey oh so pure,
Her pride like a bristle.
########
She was queen of the forest,
One color to see,
While other’s were different,
A beauty was she.
She held her head high,
And walked to a Den,
Where other wolves played,
She sauntered right in.
Oh how they would awe,
Or howl delight,
Nuzzle her grey,
Be silent on sight.
Her grey it would dazzle,
All colored of one,
Those freckled and speckled,
All humbled and done.
But oh to her shock,
Those dabbled dirt bright,
Neither bowed or did nuzzle,
They acted not right.
They gathered around,
Colored three, four, or two,
And asked only this,
“How can it be true?”
They said that her fur,
Was colored so fair,
Was light grey and dark grey,
Fifty colors of hair.
Shade did see the awe,
Was treated quite great,
But not for her one,
A whole other trait.
Her fur was a dazzle,
Still fair that was sure,
But of many grey’s,
A fifty so pure.
This Lady of Shade,
Saw freckled and specked,
And took in their love,
Their play and respect.
Maybe all of one,
Just wasn’t quite right,
Maybe all of the different,
Did hold better sight.
So Shade joined their play,
Heart changed cause it could,
No longer just one,
All colors were good.
Poem:
(For You)
I thank my God,
For sun trapped dew,
That fractures light,
All sparkle new,
For peace and cry,
Such secrets shared,
Just he and I,
For all he’s won,
The way it’s finished,
Through his son,
For how I heard,
In pulpit prayer,
His precious word,
For days apart,
The grief of loss,
A broken heart,
For much and dew,
And always this,
Thank God for you.
